Also wanted to ask is the balance of 72.15 actually for the whole year? How in the world do you do that? I use coupons and I do rebates and I look for major sales but there is no way I could ever ever do what you do!!!! I sure wish I could but I don't think there is any way and I only have a household of 3.

Karla, it is not easy. This is my second year of the challenge and my stockpile is suffering from it.
I try my best to match coupons with sales to get the best deal on everything.
Rebates, bartering and coupon trading really helps too.
You can do it only 2 more months to go.
I really enjoy your blog. I always wonder how to balance replenishing/maintaining the stockpile vs. not using up too much of the budget. Do you have any guidelines? I can have a really low month but it depletes the pantry so next month is higher to restock basics. After following your success last year I know you can do it and I'll be cheering you on. I had 26 of the $2.00 discover coupons left today. So we got up and hit Wal-mart and Target. (Less then 1/2 mile from my house) The weekend is definately a good time to use them. So many registers open, so very little wait after each transaction. We paid for one item each and then hot another line. Got lots of stuff we really needed. I hope discover does this again!!!
Also last year in my mall near me discover gave you a $20 gift card for every 100 you spent. I hope they are doing this again this year!!!!

the Discover card coupons were either $1 or $2 (depending on your area) coupons that came out in the Sunday paper. They expired on 10/31.
Mike, I did the mall gift card thing last year too and hope they do it again this year. An extra $20 here and there really helps.
